⛵ 2023 reflections and sailing into the New Year

Published 4 months ago • 2 min read

Hi Reader,

In the spirit of transparency and community building, I'm excited to share a glimpse into the Yacht Warriors' journey over the past year and our vision for 2024.

The newsletter - where it all began

It started in 2022 as a personal endeavor: to fill a void in quality online chartering information and to learn more about digital marketing. From articles I would have found useful while planning a charter, Yacht Warriors was born.

Our commitment remains unchanged - to provide content of genuine value based on my chartering experiences and industry insights.

In May 2022, I sent my first newsletter to 26 subscribers! We now connect with nearly 5,000 salty skippers, first-timers, and industry insiders each month. Our goal for 2024? To double this number, continuing to share valuable, firsthand experiences and insights with you.

Charter bookings - an unexpected addition

Initially, booking yacht charters for our readers wasn't on the horizon. However, responding to many reader requests, we began this service in late 2022. While you can book directly with bareboat charter companies, our unique advice and insights add a different dimension to the experience.

Last year, we received 170 charter requests and facilitated 24 charters across 6 companies - a 14% conversion rate. Is that good? It's a start, and with plans for 2024, we aim to improve.

Here's some feedback from some of the recent crews we've worked with:

As some of you know, the Yacht Warriors isn't my full-time pursuit - my main gig is running a private lending business in Texas. However, I'm deeply invested in this venture: my passion for helping others experience the thrill of chartering runs deep.

That's why, as our community grew in 2023, prioritizing exceptional customer service became essential. Enter Emilia, our newest team member and an undeniable superstar. If you've had the pleasure of interacting with her, you know she's fully committed to elevating your charter experiences.

I rarely mention our booking services in these newsletters, as I want to avoid distractions from the primary goal of the newsletter: sharing valuable charter insights and sea stories. But know this – if you ever feel like tapping into our expertise for your next charter, you know where to find us. Consider this my once-in-a-blue-moon plug!

2024 - the year ahead

Looking forward to 2024, we plan to keep delivering content that resonates with our personal sailing experiences. I've got an April BVI couples trip lined up, a potential last-minute summer escapade, and our annual fall guys fishing trip. Suggestions for the fishing trip destination are welcome!

My twice monthly newsletter will continue, and I’m eager to hear any topic suggestions you might have.

Over the past year, I've picked up coding skills and have some exciting plans for the Yacht Warriors website – creating features I'd love as a charter skipper or crew member. We're planning to do it all in-house, so stay tuned for updates!

Thank you for being part of the Yacht Warriors journey. Here's to a 2024 filled with fun adventures out there on on the water!

Hi Reader, We just returned from a lively Spring couples trip to the BVI, the busiest we’ve seen it during this season! Expect more tales and tips from our adventure in upcoming newsletters. For now, enjoy some teaser snapshots at the bottom of this email. It was a full house in White Bay! This trip wasn't without its excitement, particularly concerning a recent hot topic: mooring balls. We have had a slew of recent incidents, most of them skipper error, including the boat that grounded on...

Hi Reader, Before we hoist sails on today's journey, let's navigate through a couple of recent news items: Last week the Baths bore witness to a charter grounding on the rocks amidst Red Flag conditions. This incident mirrors the lee shore grounding of the Hillbilly a few weeks ago. Takeaways: monitor weather resources vigilantly, respect Red Flag warnings, and steer clear of anchorages that test fate (lee shores). There have been recent reports of multiple stolen dinghies at JVD, BVI. Raise...

Hi Reader, Reports are in: the BVI is buzzing with activity, reaching its peak around the Easter weekend. As the Yacht Warriors crew gears up for our BVI next adventure next month aboard a Lagoon 51, I’m hopeful the crowds will thin a bit. Meanwhile, I kicked off the provisioning for our journey, stowing away those essential hot sauces that no sailing trip can do without. Matouk's and Marie Sharp's are my two favorite hot sauces Safety update: recent groundings in BVI A quick note on safety,...
