Hi Reader,
This is Matt Weidert with the Yacht Warriors, and here's what I have for you today:
With younger kids, and time for only week-long charter trips, it'll be a few years before I reach certain cruising grounds.
Not only that, but these destinations can have:
Here's the top 3 that make my list:
Read more about these trips, and find out which places don't make the cut - some might surprise you. Also, please tell me why I'm wrong!
I've had a few questions recently about whether the sleep aboard option is worth it, so I wrote about it in detail.
My answer is usually yes - I believe it makes sense, most of the time. Why?
What does the sleep aboard cost? Anywhere from 50-70% of your daily charter fee, or a per person charge such as $75/crew member.
Check out the full article here, where I also mention six scenarios when you might want to skip the sleep aboard.
Someone shared this video with me recently. Crazy! Here's what happened.
The video cuts off as the sailboat carries on, and I don't have any details on the aftermath.
But, it certainly highlights the risks of not standing a watch with autopilot running, in a dangerous area full of sandbars, cays, and cuts.
So what's the twist? The Bali 5.4 is the Yepa II which I took out on a bareboat charter in 2021. Towards the end of the video, he prepares to make a distress call and uses "Yepa II" as his call sign.
You can read more about that Exumas trip in case you missed it.
From the bucket list...I'll get there one day!

Hi Reader, Well, we did it. After 15 years of island hopping, late-night rum punches, and whisper-quiet anchorages, we finally pulled off something entirely new: our first kids charter. Two families. Four kids (ages 5, 8, 9, and 11). Six nights. One unforgettable Exumas adventure. We planned treasure hunts, chased nurse sharks through mangrove creeks, and watched the wonder of the islands light up through younger eyes. Here's our Top 5 moments from the week that reminded us what this...
Hi Reader, Alright friends, it’s time to get excited. Next week, I’m heading back to my all-time favorite cruising ground: the Exuma island chain in the Bahamas. But this trip has a twist! It’s our first-ever kids charter—and yeah, we’re bringing the little pirates along for the ride (2x families with kids ages 5, 8, 9, 11). We’re trading late-night rum punches for treasure hunts and mangrove safaris (okay, still some rum punches too). I cannot wait to build some core memories with the next...
Hi Reader, If you’re thinking about chartering in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI), or both — there are some important changes you need to know before you book. Starting June 1, 2025, new regulations are taking effect that limit how yachts can move between the BVI and USVI, how long they can stay, and how many pickups or drop-offs they can do in each territory. These rules don’t just affect charter companies. They impact your itinerary, your flexibility, and...
