⛵ Featured Yachts for the 2025 Season
Published 3 days ago • 5 min read
Hi Reader,
I hope everyone had some well-deserved time off over the holidays! I have a fun update from the home front: we’ve officially inked the contract for our next yacht charter adventure, and I’m excited that we’re heading back to the Exumas in June for the first time since 2020. We’ll be aboard the exact same Bali 5.4 we chartered previously—you can read about that trip here.
This time there is a twist. Instead of a couples trip, we're going with another family and I’m beyond thrilled to be sharing the experience with a group of kids (ages 5–10).
On another note, I’ve added a new search feature to our website header to make it easier for you to find exactly what you need—whether it’s destinations, points of interest, or blog posts.
In today’s newsletter, I’m showcasing a few of my favorite yachts for the 2025 season—covering both private crewed options and those for my bareboat readers. Let’s kick things off with some fantastic crewed yachts I had the pleasure of visiting at the November USVI and BVI yacht shows. There were countless standouts on display, but here are a few that really captured my imagination…
The Bali 5.4 is a perennial favorite for crewed charters, and for good reason—there’s a huge flybridge, four to five ensuite cabins (sleeping 8–10), a spacious indoor/outdoor salon, and pricing that’s surprisingly reasonable for a crewed experience.
But what really sets this Bali 5.4, High 5, apart is the crew. Skipper Umberto brings easygoing Italian charm with a confident command of the helm, while Chef Daryl mixes a great sense of humor with bright, fresh culinary delights that’ll have you looking forward to every meal. Together, they create a warm, welcoming vibe on board.
High 5 is based at Scrub Island—one of my favorite jump-off points for a charter, thanks to the gorgeous scenery and resort amenities like a fabulous pool. Two final touches that make this cat stand out? Soft (faux teak) decking on the aft deck and flybridge (perfect for bare feet!), and the fact that High 5 took home “Best in Show” at this year’s yacht show.
This isn't your average crewed yacht experience. If you’re seeking a hands-on, adrenaline-fueled charter, Awatea might be your perfect match. Built with performance in mind, this Balance 63 favors practical, expedition-ready design over flashy opulence—so you can dive into uncrowded surf breaks, scope out pristine dive spots, and even spear your own dinner (just not in the BVI!). Want to boost your fish count? Awatea comes equipped with a game chair and live bait tank, ensuring you can reel in the catch of the day like a pro.
While adventure is top of the menu, creature comforts aren’t forgotten. Captain Fraser—who’s also a marine biologist—brings plenty of knowledge and skill to the helm, while Olivia’s culinary touch keeps everyone happy and fueled for the next thrill. Rounding out the team is Jess, whose high energy and creative cocktail-making add a splash of fun once you’ve dropped anchor for the day. If you’re ready to trade a bit of luxury for an unforgettable, off-the-beaten-path experience, Awatea will give you exactly that—and then some.
If you’re looking for an upgraded charter experience (ideal for six guests, though they can accommodate eight), Liquid Sky is in a league of its own. This sailing catamaran is fresh off winning Best in Show at the 2024 USVI Yacht Show, and it’s easy to see why. With thoughtful design, a spacious master suite, and the best flybridge in it's class—it’s the perfect blend of comfort and adventure.
Liquid Sky isn’t just about looks, though. It’s packed with features that make every moment unforgettable, from its onboard e-foils for thrill-seekers to a hot tub that’s made for soaking under the stars. Stay tuned for a wellness package that they plan to introduce soon.
And the crew? Captain Simon is as meticulous as they come, with an adventurous edge that guarantees memorable days on the water. Whether it’s snorkeling vibrant reefs or simply cruising in style, you’re in excellent hands. Chef Amber transforms meals into culinary masterpieces with her globally inspired flavors. And then there’s Anton, the deckhand who keeps everything running smoothly with his technical skills and knack for making every guest feel at home.
Pricing starts at $61,000 for 8 guests / 7 days
Bareboat Yachts
When it comes to bareboat charters for 2025, it seems like the motto is bigger is better. Navigare alone has added six new six-cabin yachts to their fleet, and other operators appear to be following suit. Here are a couple of standout models worth highlighting.
Bali 5.4
By my count, there are now ten Bali 5.4s available for bareboat charter in the BVI. Wow! I’ve written extensively about why I enjoy chartering this model (and trust me, it’s not for its sailing prowess). You can read my full review here.
The Bali 5.4 is a clear upgrade from the ~50-foot catamarans in terms of space—the extra room is significant. Whether it’s the expansive flybridge, open salon layout, or generous cabins, this yacht offers a lot of comfort. That said, the extra space comes at a price, with rates typically $5,000–$10,000 higher than models in the 50 foot range. If space is your top priority and the budget allows, the Bali 5.4 is an excellent choice for groups or families.
Lagoon 51
The Lagoon 51 is making a splash with new deliveries hitting the fleets of operators like Navigare, TMM, and Horizon in BVI and the Bahamas. I chartered one this past May and was impressed by the upgrades over older Lagoon models (the 50 and 52).
Notably, the flybridge received a much-needed improvement, now featuring a proper table and seating area—making it a great spot for sunset cocktails or breakfast with a view. The Lagoon 51 usually comes with six cabins and four heads, which makes it particularly well-suited for families. While it’s not quite as spacious as the Bali 5.4, it’s a more budget-friendly option for larger groups. You can check out my detailed review of the Lagoon 51 here.
I’ll leave you with this today: some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen have been out on the water. But over the holidays, we did some backcountry glamping in Big Bend National Park, and let me tell you, the 360 degree sunset we saw there might just top my all-time list. There’s something about those endless skies and purple mountains that's unforgettable.

Hi Reader, I’m thrilled to share some updates for the 2025 charter season, which is already shaping up to be one for the books! Hi Reader, I just got back from my very first trip to the USVI and BVI Crewed Charter Yacht Shows, and let me tell you—it was quite an experience! But before we dive into the highlights, I wanted to touch on a news items: First, a tragic reminder: late this past Friday, a dinghy captain lost his life in the channel between the BEYC and Saba Rock when his dinghy was T-boned by a speeding superyacht tender. While there's no excuse for the tender's reckless speed, it's a heartbreaking reminder...
Hi Reader, On this Veterans Day, I'm taking a moment to reflect on a journey that's been anything but linear. My service in the Marines taught me about resilience, camaraderie, and discovering peace in unexpected places. Maiwand, Afghanistan, circa 2010 While stationed at Camp Pendleton, Britney and I joined a sailing club, exploring the San Diego Bay between deployments. It was more than a pastime; it became a newfound passion that stayed with us. This eventually led us to the world of...
